CITIZENSHIP IN THE COMMUNITY FOR JUNE TROOP MEETINGS
Â
All Scouts not participating in Swimming Merit Badge activities in the first two week’s meetings in June should note the following information even if they’ve already earned their Citizen in the Community merit badge.
Â
**Please obtain merit badge book and see Mr. Shatynski if you didn’t receive workbook from him.
Â
Prior to June 7th meeting:
1) Review merit badge book.
2) Print google maps map of city of Brea to fill in landmarks in city as discussed.
3) Visit http://www.ci.brea.ca.us/ and go to City Government tab to learn about the structure of the government in the city of Brea. Compose one question that you will ask the Mayor, City Councilmembers, or City Manager about the city or their jobs.
4) Consider a local non-profit organization that you’d be interested in getting involved with and providing 8 hours of service.
Â
JUNE 7 MEETING—Meet no later than 645PM at Brea Civic Center in full Class A uniform as we will conduct flag ceremony for 7PM Brea City Council Meeting. We will stay for the meeting and afterward be given a 15 to 20 minute Question and Answer session with the Mayor, Councilmembers and City Manager. This is when you will ask your question.
Â
JUNE 14 MEETING—We meet at 630PM at the Hall and our meeting will run until 845PM as we will be watching a full-length movie (popcorn and drinks provided) that is suggested by Boy Scouts of America to illustrate how a citizen can contribute to his community.
Â
Other merit badge requirements, including a short presentation to at least two Troop adults, will be completed as Scouts are able in the following weeks.
Â
If you have questions, please see/email/call Mr. Shatynski or Mr. Bovard .
Â
This is a vital opportunity for you to complete a key Eagle-required merit badge. Even if you’ve already completed this one, the City Council meeting and the movie should be beneficial experiences.
