Have you filled out the Troop Information Form yet?

We are are asking everyone, Scouts and Adults alike, to fill out the simple Troop Information form.  This will serve two purposes.  First, to update our data base and insure that everyone receives the most current information regarding the activities within the Troop.  Second, we will be able give each scout a secure user and password so they can communicate with members of their Patrols.

Cub Scout Belt Loop Day

On Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 10:30 – 3:00 pm, our troop will be hosting a Cub Scout Belt Loop Day.  This is a terrific service is not only to help younger scouts but also to showcase our own Scouting Program.

We will be teaching Basketball, chess, citizenship, communicating, computers, flag football, Map & Compass, Marbles, Ultimate, Wildlife, Citizen Activity Badge, and Readyman Activity badge.  As a result, we will need full participation from all of our scouts.  Please sign up HERE and choose the belt loop you would like to teach.

Hoegees Day Hike

On Saturday, August 24, 2013, we will be hiking the Hoegees Camp Loop in the Angeles National Forest.  This day hike will start at Chantry Flats and take us on a 6 mile loop to an elevation of 1300 feet.

Be prepared with your day packs which should include your 10 essentials, trail food, lunch, water, topo map (Tom Harrison map of Angeles Front Country Trail), compass, and trekking poles (optional).

We will meet at 8 am at Hugo Hall and plan to return by 2 pm.  The cost is $5 to cover gas.  Signed Activity Consent Forms are required.

The Plunge Swim Day

images-2 On Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 12 pm – 2pm, we will be having a Swim Day at The Plunge in Brea.

We will meet at Hugo Hall at 11:30 am and walk to the pool together. Parents can drop off the scouts and pick them up at 2:15pm. We will simply need a signed permission slip.

The cost is only $2.  Please bring towels, slippers, sunscreen, etc.

Pack 811 Flag Retirement Ceremony

On Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 7:00 pm at SAM Hugo Hall, Pack 811 will be having their Annual Advancement Campfire.

As been our tradition, scouts from Troop 811 have volunteered to participate in the flag retirement ceremony at the end of the Campfire.  Some of our first year scouts will be taking part in a separate ceremony involving the Tigers.  Therefore, we need some of our older scouts to retire the flag.

As always, full Class A uniforms are required for this solemn event.

Sunset Beach Kayak Trip

On Saturday, June 8, 2013, Troop 811 will be going on a Kayak Trip at Sunset Beach.  We will be meeting at SAM Hugo Hall at 8 am and return  at 12 pm.  The cost will be $10 for the 2 hour kayak rental and $5 for gas.

Dress in clothes that can get wet (Class B shirt).  Bring flip flops, a beach towel, sun screen, and snacks/drinks.  We recommend that you pack all the items in a ziploc bag or dry sack.

The only prerequisite for this trip is for all scouts and adults show adequate swimming ability.  Scouts who have earned their Swimming Merit Badge qualify.  However, for those who haven’t , Mr. Walburn will be holding a swimming test on Tuesday, June 4 at Mr. Glasgow’s community pool next to 1692 Kellen Dr., Brea.  As mentioned in a previous email, this is the first in a series of 4 meetings with Mr. Walburn who will be testing scouts for the Swimming Merit Badge.

Memorial Day Service Project

In Honor of our Military Heroes

Troop 811,

We have been asked to be participate in Memory Garden Memorial Park and Mortuary’s  Annual Memorial Day Program.   This a wonderful event for both scouts and parents as we say “thank you” to those who served our country so well.

There are 3 events.  You are welcome to participate in one or in all:

1) Saturday, May 25th at 7 am:  Placing Flags and crosses on the graves of the fallen military men and women buried there.  Complete Class A uniform please.

2) Monday, May 27th at 7 am:  Placing flagpoles and raising full sized American flags along the car path within Memorial Garden.  This is a “work event” so  Class B uniforms and working gloves are encouraged.

3) Monday, May 27th at 3 pm: Lowering flags and taking down the poles.  Flags will be folded and stored afterwards.  Class B uniforms.

 This will go towards service hours.  No sign up sheet is needed.

Little Jimmy Overnight Backpacking Trip

We will be hiking the Little Jimmy Trail, an awesome 6 mile trek with elevation of 7500 feet throughout the Angeles National Forest High Country, including summiting Mt. Islip.  It is an overnight trip beginning on  Saturday, June 29 at 8am and ending on Sunday, June 30 at 1 pm.  The trek cost is $5 to cover transportation.

The only prerequisite for this outing for both scouts and adults is to have completed a 5 mile hike, at elevation over 5000 feet, within the last 12 months. The Trek leader will approve the scouts and adults for the trip based on hike performance.

All participants must bring their own backpacking gear, food and water.  Everyone needs to bring a topo map of the area: Tom Harrison Maps, Angeles High Country Trail Map, or USGS 7.5-min Crystal Lake. A sample list of gear can be found in Backpack Camping Checklist.

Spring Court of Honor

Spring Court of Honor 

 Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 7pm-9pm 

 St. Angela Merici Church Hall

 

This biannual event is a public ceremony that recognizes a Scout’s achievements over the last 6 months.  Scouts will be presented with their Rank Advancements, Merit Badges, service pins, and special awards such as Totin’ Chip. 

Family members are encouraged to attend to support their Scout.
Snacks will be provided at the end of the ceremony. 

Scouts must be dressed their full Class A uniforms and report to the Hall at 6:30 pm for set up.

Summerfest Service Project 2013

Troop 811 has been asked to assist in the clean up efforts  for St. Angela Merici School’s Annual Summerfest.  Scouts will be walking the grounds at Summerfest and collecting trash on the ground.  It is our way of supporting the charter organization that sponsors us.
